50,000+ people have signed petition for revoking Real Madrid’s 5 Champions League trophies
Real Madrid are on the verge of making history if they can defeat Atletico Madrid on 28th May,2016 and claim their 11th Champions League trophy. However, there is an online petition for revoking Real Madrid’s 5 Champions League trophies that is getting huge response and already more than 50,000 people have signed it.
According to the online petition, Real Madrid’s first five European Cup wins should be revoked. The trophies Real Madrid won between the year 1955-56 and 1959-60, which were the first five European Cup tournaments, were different from the current modern Champions League format.
The petition looks to be a completely baseless argument and reflects the desperation suffered by the other clubs supporters. It has got huge support from the Barcelona fanbase who are most probably jealous of Real Madrid’s success and want their club to have the same number of Champions League trophies as Real Madrid. Still they have got over 50,000 signatures in the petition for revoking Real Madrid’s 5 Champions League trophies.
Real Madrid have won the European Cup and UEFA Champions League 10 times in total while Barcelona’s late purge have taken them to an impressive 5 Champions League wins lately.
The petition was started by Spainish user ‘Justicia Deportiva’, whose account name translates as Sporting Justice. He wrote “We wish to request, in the name of the values represented by the sport and by democracy, that Real Madrid’s European Cup titles won between 1955-56 and 1959-60 are immediately revoked.
[This would be] in recognition of the fact that those trophies in no way correspond to the competition recognised today as the UEFA Champions League.”

UEFA who are the Champions League organisers will look into this petition once it’s complete. Their target is to accumulate 75,000 signatures.
