Former Sunderland AFC player Adam Johnson has been sentenced to 6 years on counts of sexual activity with a child. Lawyer says conviction report will be filed this morning.
A disgrace to football, the former England International was convicted of carrying out a sex act on the 15-year-old girl in the January of last year. The winger had denied all four allegations until the first date of trial, where he pleaded guilty to the counts of kissing and grooming the school girl. He reluctantly denied doing anything more than kissing the teenager and disputed the other 2 sexual offences. But on March 2 he was found guilty by a majority verdict of carrying out a sex act on her in County Durham on 30 January 2015. The teenager has been taking counselling sessions for suicidal thoughts, depression and anxiety according to the prosecuting attorney Kate Blackwell.
