Did you know: Leicester City are the only team in history to win Community Shield without winning Premier League or FA Cup ?

In 1971, Arsenal became the second team to win the Double(League and FA Cup) since the Shield’s foundation, but because of their previously arranged pre-season friendly matches, they could not play for the Shield. Division Two champions Leicester City were invited  to play against FA Cup runners-up Liverpool. The Foxes  went on to win the trophy, despite having never won either the League or the FA Cup.

For facts, this unbelievable record might end considering how Leicester are performing this season.

Leicester City now have a strong 8 point lead over Tottenham Hotspurs who have a game in hand. With Spurs and Arsenal losing their momentum and just 7 games left for Leicester City, It will take a really great downfall to stop Leicester from winning the Premier League.

At the start of the season nobody would have thought of the Foxes being in top 4 of Barclays Premier League, not even their own fans. Another proof of what a great leveller Football is! Leicester City team is living their dreams. From surviving the relegation last year to being at Top in the month of March, Its really a fairytale for Leicester. Their owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha promised the fans that he will lead Leicester to European competitions within  a span of 5 years and the gentleman is pulling out the miracle. Nobody would have believed his words back then but now its reality.

Coach Claudio Ranieri who has been known for his greatness of saving football clubs that are going through disastrous spell has done it once again. Everyone is aware how he led Ligue 2 side AS Monaco to the pinaccle of Ligue 1 and brought  them to UEFA Champions League as well. The success story was short as Monaco turned from a free spending club to the likes of a selling club with big names like James Rodriguez, Radamel Falcao, Yannick Ferreira Carrasco and many more being sold. This might not be the case for Leicester as the owners seems to be determined for long term success.

Ranieri, who has regularly played down the club’s chances of winning Premier League, has finally admitted that their eyes are set on the title in a recent interview.

” Everything is in our hands. We have to push, it’s not important the others. No one is helping us, we have to do our job. If someone goes over us, well done, they are the champions, we continue to fight. ” told by Ranieri who was a happy man after the win.

Also, He pointed out that Leicester City has already completed their mission this season, “No (we won’t be disappointed if we don’t win) I am happy with this season. I remember the start of the season. The goal was to save the team. Now everybody are speaking about us, not just in England, in the world, everyone is pushing behind us, it’s a great energy. If somebody is better than us, well done, we made a fantastic achievement. Europa League maybe Champions League.”

Added the boss with his down to earth attitude, “Look, seven matches before the end, it’s not easy for us,” he added. “We are Leicester, we aren’t a team like United, City, Chelsea, five or eight point clear it would be finished, with us no, we have to fight every match. Now we are in Europa League and we are very close to achieve Champions League. Our fans are singing, this is fantastic, we have to stay calm and concentrate. These seven matches are open.”

With Ranieri still remaining grounded and hoping for Europa League, its really clear that Leicester has claimed a Champions League spot and a very high chance of winning the Premier League and write history.
