Xavi Hernández talks about Cristiano Ronaldo – Lionel Messi and El Clásico

Xavi Hernández, the former Barcelona midfielder who is currently playing for Qatari club Al Sadd SC gave an interview to The New Arab recently. Amongst other things, he was asked one of the favorite questions among the media, Who is better? Leo Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo by Muhammad Azeem. Xavi replied “I think Messi is the best footballer in the world. In football, there are two important elements: fitness and intelligence. Ronaldo is very fit but Messi has both the fitness as well as the intelligence, so simply put he is better”

Days being numbered for the upcoming El Clásico, Xavi Hernández spoke about his best memories of the clashes between Real Madrid and Barcelona, “The El Clásico is without a doubt the most exciting match of the season and in the lives of each player”. The highly experienced midfielder highlighted the club’s big wins over their eternal rivals ” I have lots of great memories, but the two that stick out the most are the historical matches when we beat Real Madrid 5-0 and 6-2″,

During his long 17 seasons stay at Barça, Xavi Hernández experienced the adrenaline rush of El Clásico many times. He played alongside and against some of the greatest football players ever. According to Xavi, among those he faced, two legends were stand out .-  Ronaldo “O Fenómeno” and Zidane: “[I’ve come up against] lots of players but the ones I can’t forget are Ronaldo “the phenomenon”, Luis Figo, Raúl, Fernando Hierro, Roberto Carlos, Zidane and in the later years Cristiano Ronaldo, Mesut Özil. However, the best out of all these I would say were Zidane and Ronaldo – the Brazilian”.

Xavi spoke about  other topics such as his life in the flashy country Qatar, The treble-winning and current Barcelona’s coach Luis Enrique continuing the Pep Guardiola philosophy at Barçelona. Xavi Hernández also talked about the current Arab players he admires such as Leicester City’s sensational Riyad Mahrez, Hassan al-Haidos and Khalfan Ibrahim.
